Home Made Ice Cream and Sorbet

Strawberry yogurt ice cream

I ordered this from Amazon and it arrived two days ago, I left it sitting in its unopened box till the next morning when I finally got around to opening the box, washing it real well and placed the inside bowl in my freezer knowing the grand boys were going to be spending the night with us.
That night I filled it with this mixture:

Strawberry Sorbet Recipe

1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
4 cups fresh or thawed frozen strawberries
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1.  Combine sugar and water in saucepan.  Bring to a boil.    Reduce heat to low and simmer until all sugar is dissolved.
2.  Remove from heat; place in refrigerator and cool completely.
3.  Puree strawberries; then add lemon juice and sugar water.
4.  Start ice cream maker and pour mixture through hole in lid.
5.  Churn for 20-40 minutes or until desired consistency.
Absolutely delicious!!!
I washed the bowl and placed it back in  the freezer and this morning I decided to get a bit creative and make up my own yogurt ice cream.

This time I kind of followed a regular ice cream recipe but instead of using heavy cream I substituted plain yogurt.

RECIPE:

2 cups half' n half
1 cup plain yogurt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups crushed frozen strawberries.
Mixed it well in a bowl, turned on the machine and poured the mixture in and let it churn for 15 minutes.

One nice container of frozen strawberry yogurt
The grand boys and I will be enjoying this after our pizza lunch.

Now a bit of feedback about this lovely appliance.
Right off the bat I learned one big lesson.. do NOT try adding the liquids before starting the machine.. it will start freezing to the sides of the frozen bowl and you will not be able to put the top on.
Some people complain that this thing is too noisy.. yes, it does make a chatter noise but not enough to keep you from thinking or talking on the phone.. I've had lots noisier appliances such as my blender or food processor.

Some people have complained it takes too long to process.. but it's only because they either didn't keep it in the freezer for the required 8 hours or their freezer isn't cold enough.  Some refrigerator freezers just might not be cold enough or the door might be opened quite often causing the temp to drop.  I keep mine in my upright freezer which seldom ever gets opened.
I was able to make the sorbet in less then 10 minutes and the frozen yogurt in only 15 minutes.

I do love the fact you don't need to use ice and rock salt.
This makes only 1 1/2 quarts which is plenty for my family
they do sell larger ones if needed.
